Letter?Box

We used to write letters to eachother.

The mailbox that once held personal words now mostly receives advertisements and bills, we often want to throw away rather than keep.

This project reflects on the disappearance of handwritten letters and the quiet loss of slowness, attention and intimacy that came with them. It questions what happens when communication becomes faster, but less tangible.

Behind this overload of paper, we designed a table with pen, paper and stamps.

Visitors were invited to slow down and take the time to write a letter.
Once written, the letters could be posted in the mailbox ‘hidden’ into the mass of printed material.

After the exhibition, which took place at Letterenhuis - Antwerp, all the letters were sent by post.
